About our Peak
District Cottages
We took
over the Bolehill Farm Peak District cottages from the previous owners in the middle of
November 2003. As regular users of holiday cottages for many
years we hoped to draw on this experience to provide the
service and facilities today's guests expect.
The
Peak
District Holiday Cottages were
once part of a working Derbyshire farm but has been run as a set of
Peak District holiday
cottages since the mid 80's. The cow sheds were converted
to peak District holiday cottages from the mid 80's
onwards. We now have 8
Holiday cottages
all
with modern
living accommodation, easy access to the countryside and a
quiet rural setting, providing guests with a tranquil and
relaxed setting away from the hustle and bustle of the
modern world but only 2 miles from the Peak District market town of
Bakewell.
In
all we have approximately 22 Acres of grounds so there is
ample land for guests to enjoy the beautiful countryside,
soak up the atmosphere of the general area or exercise dogs and for
children to play.
Guests
are free to roam around the grounds at will (except our private gardens) but please ensure that
dogs and children
do not chase or torment the livestock. The milder
climatic conditions of our fields often means the farmer
uses them for expectant mothers (cows and sheep) and young
cattle. In general the cattle are harmless but often inquisitive and
sometimes mischievous, the sheep of course are just sheep and wander
around in their own world. See our
peak district cottages in the snow.
Unfortunately snow is no longer guaranteed in the winter
months but when it does arrive it is a magical time at
our Derbyshire cottages.
Although
many of our guests while away the hours just relaxing in our
grounds there are numerous walks from the door including
short walks to the Derbyshire Villages of
Over Haddon,
Sheldon,
Lathkill Dale,
Monyash
etc. The beautiful village of Ashford in the Water is only
2 miles away with walks to Monsel Head and beyond. The local amenities of
Bakewell
are only 5 minutes away where you can stop for an
afternoon tea (15 tea shops), browse through the shops,
have a peaceful drink in one of the many pubs or just
watch the world go by down by the river. The beautiful
village of
Ashford
in the Water is only a few miles away with
Chatsworth
and
Haddon Hall
within 10-15 minutes drive.
The
surrounding
area is full of sites of historical interest, local
customs such as 'well dressing', beautiful countryside, and attractions for the children
(Heights of
Abraham,
Alton Towers, local Donkey Sanctuary etc).
As we live on site we usually meet our guests on
arrival and assist them with settling into their
cottage and are normally around to help guests with
planning their holiday, advising on local
attractions or generally providing assistance.
We look forward to welcoming you to Bolehill Farm and
hope you enjoy your time in the area as much as we enjoy
living here.
