Peak District Cottages - Environmental Policies

The following defines our current Environmental policy. We intend to review this policy regularly and strive to make improvements where possible:

peak district cottages environmental policy

  • Wherever practical fair trade or locally produced products and services are used.

  • A compost bin is available for guest use. This is located behind Bluebell/Honeysuckle.

  • Low energy lighting is used where possible with light sensors and timers where appropriate.

  • All glass is collected for recycling (see bin area)

  • In order to reduce water and detergent, bed linen and towels are changed once per week or for each new guest

  • When practical linen and towels are naturally aired rather than tumble dried.

  • Environmentally 'friendly' cleaning products are used where practical.

  • Heating is provided by new high efficiency boilers. The Heating system is only run when necessary and night storage tanks have been installed for hot water storage to minimise heat loss.

  • Individual radiator thermostats are fitted to all radiators to ensure maximum efficiency and customer comfort.

  • We maintain an environmental friendly approach to the upkeep of the garden and courtyard with due consideration to wildlife.

Guests may help by:

  • Turning off lights/television and closing curtains, depending upon the season, when leaving your cottage.

  • Turning down/asking us to turn down your room heating if it is too hot (rather than opening a window).

  • Being careful what you dispose of in the toilet (personal hygiene bags are provided).

  • We have a number of 'walks from the door'. So please leave the Car behind and enjoy a walk over to Sheldon or Over Haddon and Lathkill Dale

  • Most of our local shops stock local produce. We are fortunate to have excellent local producers of food, drink, and arts and crafts within our region. Try a local Ice cream or a Bakewell 'pudding' or browse around one of the many craft shops down town.

  • Reduce, reuse, recycle – Try to avoid overly packaged goods and say no to the extra carrier bag.  Try and recycle any waste you have.

  • Be water wise – please use water wisely. Turn off the tap when not in use etc.

  • Respect Nature – Please help us to look after the landscape and wildlife by not littering, guarding against fire and using footpaths and cycle-ways responsibly.  When out walking with your dog please adhere to the Countryside Access code (copy in leisure area)

Please let us know if there is anything you feel we could improve upon.
