Monyash is located 3 miles to the
west of our peak District Cottages along the B5055. The
village in the
Derbyshire
Peak District is about five miles west of
Bakewell. It is located in a shallow hollow in the
limestone plateau at the head of
Lathkill Dale, which starts just outside of the village.
It lies at an elevation of 300m above sea level, and has a
population of about 280 people. The village originated as a
centre for
the local
lead mining trade. One of the features of the village is
the
remains of the
market cross, dating from 1340.
The Bulls Head pub serves superb pub food and allows dogs in the
bar area. The Smithy cafe serves good food throughout the day
with Ice cream sold during the spring summer and autumn. There
is a newly refurbished
play area located just behind the pub which was designed by
local school children.
