Bolehill Holiday Cottages

Pet Friendly Holiday Accommodation

Here at Bolehill cottages our pet friendly holiday accommodation welcomes well behaved pets (See charges) of all kinds but especially we welcome dogs. Our dog friendly environment and the beautiful surrounding countryside are everything a dog could need for that home away from home feel.

We are situated in a superb rural location in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales Peak District National Park but only 2 miles from the market town of Bakewell. The cottages are set in extensive grounds of open fields and woodland. Our fields (bounded by traditional Derbyshire dry stone walls) are a peaceful haven for cattle and wildlife and enjoy magnificent views towards Lathkill Dale and open countryside.

Here are just some of the facilities we have for pets:

  • 25 acres of grounds
  • Dedicated enclosed exercise area
  • Dog friendly local pubs
  • Walks from the door
  • 'Dog wash' area
  • Well set back from any roads
  • Two local dogs to play with

Bolehill Cottages sit within 200 to 300 acres of Derbyshire Dales Peak District farmland. Our own grounds extend to approximately 25 Acres which include our gardens, 3 fields, an enclosed stone walled paddock area and a number of wooded copses. Pets and their owners are free to roam throughout our grounds and have easy access to the additional 200 to 300 Acres of farmland via stiles or gates. Smudge and Blue at reception We have also set aside a paddock area (a small field nearest to the cottages) for those early morning and late evening walks although access to our fields is only a few yards away (either through the car park or through the guest garden). Of course there are also a couple of local residents (Blue and Smudge) to play with (See 'the dogs' blog).

Being a rural location we are blessed with pubs that accept dogs in the public bar. Although not many pubs in Bakewell allow dogs most of the local village pubs are dog friendly. In addition one or two of the cafés in Bakewell now allow dogs, as do a few in the villages. Most of the local attractions are happy to allow dogs into the grounds. Chatsworth House welcome dogs into the gardens but not the house.

In addition to our fields we have a public footpath within 200m of our cottages. This footpaths provides relatively easy walks to the villages of Sheldon or Over Haddon both with dog friendly pubs.

Although we welcome all dogs there are a few rules we would ask that you follow:

  • We reserve the right to seek compensation for any damage and excessive cleaning costs caused by dogs and other pets and ask that owners take a responsible attitude to ensuring that dogs stay off the furniture, bedding etc.
  • Please do not leave your pet(s) in the cottage on their own unless left in a cage.
  • Keep your pet under close control at all time while around the cottages, gardens etc (this does not apply to our fields etc)
  • Although we have 25 acres of grounds you are welcome to use, it should be noted that we normally have cattle in some of our fields over the summer months. As the cattle can be inquisitive about dogs (this can be intimidating at times) we have set aside the paddock area for exercising dogs. You are, however, welcome to use any of our fields with or without cattle.
  • Please keep your pet(s) away from children's play areas and the guest gardens and remove any mess from the gardens, courtyard, paths, parking areas etc.
  • Please ensure that your pet(s) (especially bitches) does not urinate on the garden grass areas as this leaves dead patches that become unsightly for other guests.
  • Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate younger dogs/cats (under 9 months) as from past experience we find that dogs/cats under the age of 6-9 months can cause disturbance to others and damage to the cottage.
  • Please note that we do restrict the number and size of dogs in some cottages and also the overall number of dogs on site at any one time.
