Saturday 17 November A day off!

Up and both breakfasts done by 9.30. Two cottages out today and they had both left by 9.00 with none due in. It had started off a bit cloudy but when I took the dogs for a walk I noticed the clouds were shifting and blue sky was appearing. We were planning to do something for a few hours but what better than a walk! (Well I could have spent the day doing next years price list!) It had to be a quick decision so we decided to aim for Ladybower and in the car I planned a route. We managed to bag the last car parking space at the Ashopton lay by. From here we started a three mile circuit heading in the direction of Whinstone Lee. It was a relatively easy walk, one very short steep climb otherwise the ascents and descents were within my limits. A good level stretch in the middle of the walk which we shared a lot of mountain bike riders. We found a nice spot with a view to the reservoir. I shared my view with Smudges face as he was the one thing that came between me and my peanut butter and honey sandwiches (good sandwiches for energy). The path came back down to the reservoir (via High House Farm Barns) and we stopped for number of photo opportunities. There was still a good variety of colour in the leaves, but we were a little late to catch them at their best. Next Year!
When we got back to the car we came home with two extra stops. The first was at a garden center just before Hope and the second was the David Mellor Center outside Hathersage. We had been past both and had always planned to stop at them. The garden center was much as any garden center. The David Mellor Center is dedicated to the local cutlery designer David Mellor but should be better known for his design of traffic lights which has stood the test of time.

Back home and dealt with the emails and phone calls before a quick bath and out again! This time it was to Rowleys at Baslow where we had an early table booked. Best described as a gastro pub, it is the second venture of the Fischers who run Fischers at nearby Baslow Hall, which has a Michelin star amongst it many accolades. We had a very nice meal and the service was fine. Back home and time to watch this weeks episode of Heroes before bed.
