Blooming June

After a dismal Spring Bank Holiday Monday we had another fine spell of weather so Andrew did the first silage.  There was a glut of well dressings at the beginning of June so in quick succession we went to Tissington, Monyash and Ashford well dressings.  Later in June I helped with the Over Haddon well dressing which I think was the best design of the year.  The Over Haddon well dressing also coincided with Youlgrave and Bakewell ones.

The weather couldn’t make up its mind with a fine week followed by a wet week which was a shame for the first RHS Garden Show to be Held at Chatsworth House. The press day was terminated because high winds blew down some of the displays.  I had tickets for members day and went with Karen from the tea rooms.  We had a good day but the show caused a lot of traffic problems in the area.

During June we also spent another morning at Lea Gardens followed by a walk along the Cromford Canal.   We managed a short walk in the Goyt valley with a picnic lunch at Errwood Hall.  The rhododendrons were just past their best thought.  Mid month good weather returned with a spell of hot sunny weather.  We recorded our first picnic and barbecue and on one of the hottest days of the year L’Eroica took place.  Typical, last year the rain caused problems with this year the heat taking its toll.

June’s weather stats. Highest temp 28.6C on 19th with warmest day 19th and warmest night 21st. Lowest temp 7.8C on 4th with coldest day 6th and night 28th.  Wettest day 5th with 1.09 inches rain with 3.65 inches for the month compared to 4.24 inches in June 2016
