Guests
are free to roam around the grounds at will (except our private gardens) but please ensure that dogs and children
do not chase or torment the livestock. The milder
climatic conditions of our fields often means the farmer
uses them for expectant mothers (cows and sheep) and young
cattle. In general the cattle are harmless but often inquisitive and
sometimes mischievous, the sheep of course are just sheep and wander
around in their own world.
Although
many of our guests while away the hours just relaxing in
our
grounds there are numerous walks from the door including
short walks to Over Haddon,
Sheldon,
Lathkill Dale,
Monyash
etc. The local amenities of
Bakewell
are only 5 minutes away where you can stop for an
afternoon tea (15 tea shops), browse through the shops,
have a peaceful drink in one of the many pubs or just
watch the world go by down by the river. The beautiful
village of
Ashford
in the Water is only a few miles away with
Chatsworth
and
Haddon Hall
within 15 minutes drive.
The
surrounding
area is full of sites of historical interest, local
customs such as 'well dressing', beautiful countryside, and attractions for the children
(Heights of
Abraham,
Alton Towers, local Donkey Sanctuary etc).
